Working 25+ hours per week
Are you a small business owner that works more than 25 hours per week in your business?
If so, you are likely experiencing diminishing returns from any hours you put in past the 25-hour mark.
I recently came across a study entitled Use It Too Much and Lose It? The Effect of Working Hours on Cognitive Ability. [Here’s the link to the study]
Written by two Japanese university economic professors and a researcher from the Australian Institute for Family Studies, the study used data from a survey of of people living in Australia aged 40 years and older.
The study’s key finding? “For working hours up to around 25 hours a week, an increase in working hours has a positive impact on cognitive functioning. However, when working hours exceed 25 hours per week, an increase in working hours has a negative impact on cognition.”
Which means that if you are working more than three 8-hour days or five 5-hour days a week, you are squandering those extra hours in an unproductive way.
I’ll bet one of the reasons you wanted to start your own business or become a business owner was so that your could enjoy MORE time freedom, not less.
