Before 2019 Ends: 5 Holiday Marketing Tips for Small Business
As of the day I am writing this post, there are just 15 shopping days left until Xmas and just three weeks left in 2019. How can you make an impact on your small business in such as short time? Here are five ideas:
Decorate
I bet you went all-out on decorating your home this year. Lots of lights, a wreath on the front door, maybe even one of those giant “Bumble” blow-ups in the front yard. Why not decorate your business as well? Tastefully done, it makes your business seem warmer and more fun to do business with, and can also give a lift to employee morale.
Holiday decorating applies to your website as well. Add a header or footer to your website with a garland, for example.
Special Promotion
Not necessarily a Black Friday / Cyber Monday “Sale”. Especially if you have customers that buy from you repeatedly, offer an “End-of-the-Year Checkup” — a “no-cost consultation to analyze savings opportunities.” Offer this to your entire book of business and you are sure to find at least a few customers with whom you can do more business.
If you are determined to have a sale , how about an “End of the Decade” sale. Yes, the 2010s (pronounced “twenty-tens”) are coming to an end Dec. 31, 2019! Just make sure the sale is worthy of being a once-in-a-decade event.
Holiday Content
Special content on social media channels and your website. This can be things like a Christmas cookie recipe from a staff member, or a personal message from you, the owner, on what the holidays mean to you and your family. You also can send holiday greeting cards to customers.
Goodness
Take some time to give back to the community. I once worked for a company that visited children’s wards of hospitals every Christmas Eve. We did not publicize the event, but the impact internally was massive. Made us all realize how fortunate we are most of the time. And the kids were always in a better mood after a visit from Santa!
Take Time
This isn’t so much a marketing tip as much as an organizational one. Make sure everyone on your staff has all the time they need for the holidays. Even if that means awarding an unannounced day off or two, or closing early to beat the traffic on the busiest travel days. Much appreciated!
